On this 2006 LBZ motor
you will need to drill
and tap the air inlet
casting for your boost
gauge connection.
For 2001-2006 LB7 and
LLY the air inlet
casting needed to tap is
located on the top of
the motor under the
black plastic emblem
cover. Remove the
cover and the blue
intercooler boot that
connects the casting to
the passenger side
intercooler pipe.
Ideally you should
remove the casting
before drilling and
taping. If that is
not an option it can be
safely done while still
on the motor.
Insert a vacuum cleaner
hose into the other end
of the casting. On
LB7 and LLY motors this
is where the blue
intercooler boot was.
On this LBZ (above) the
boot is located below
the black plastic pipe
connector.
Drill and Tap size are
the same as for the
thermocouple, 1/8"NPT.
Start with a small pilot
hole and work your way
up to a size "R" drill
bit (0.339") increasing
1 drill bit size at a
time. This will cause
all shavings to be small
and dust-like. There is
no need to coat your
drill bits with grease
or lube. Once you
are done drilling tap
the hole with a 1/8"NPT
pipe tap.
Periodically test fit
your fitting to make
sure that you are not
tapping it too deep. |
