Power seats or electric seats normally require power to be adjusted. However, there arise situations when the power seats fail to work. In that case, we need to use an alternative method, which allows us to adjust the seat manually.

In this article, we will tell you how to make a manual adjustment for a power seat inside a Ford car. We will follow simple steps that will help you Troubleshoot a Ford Power Seat.

The comfort level of seats is an essential element for a comfortable ride. This is especially true when you are on a long drive. A comfortable seat makes you enjoy your ride. Besides, comfort reduces the chances of getting tired during the journey, and hence, reduces the possibility of road accidents.

Therefore, you must consider making your car seat as comfortable as it can be. A comfortably adjusted seat is as important as having a good engine and an efficient braking system. A good seating adjustment makes it easier for the driver to get to the pedals. It enables you to get out of dangerous situations, in which even a fraction of a second can have a consequence.

Ford cars which are fitted with power seats have a major plus point. You do not need to get your arms involved to move your seat back and forth. Power switches work using set switches, which are fitted in the car. These switches connect to the seats by sending power, which operates the seat movement.

In this way, you are able to control the movement of the seat in accordance with your requirement. However, power seats can also fail. The symptoms of a failed power seat include: a) seat not moving b) seat moving slowly c) seat stops moving while the switch is being pressed. In case of such a failure, you always have the option to contact a professional. But, you can also troubleshoot a failed power seat all by yourself.

For troubleshooting in this interior accessory, you will require the following tools: a screwdriver, a winder, a bolt cutter, a drill, safety glasses, and gloves. You should have a unique winder, with which you can move the seat easily, without much fuss. This winder is provided in the tool kit of the vehicle itself, and it comes straight from the factory.

Before proceeding to the removal of the seat, you need to place the winder in the electric motor at the back of the chair. Turn the winder left, if you wish to move the chair forward. If you want the seat to be moved backward, then turn the winder right.

The winder is, thus, an essential tool, which allows you to easily adjust the seat.

Step by Step Guide to Troubleshoot a Ford Power Seat in Car

1. Remove the car seat

The first step involves getting the power seat out of the car. At the onset, it looks like a lot of work, but is pretty simple and straightforward. You can either remove the entire seat, or you can slice the rear open using a knife. However, note that, before you start working on the seat, do not forget to take out the batteries and turn off the engine.

2. Slice the spring mesh

After taking the seat out, you will be required to cut the spring mesh located under the seat. You can do this with the help of a bolt cutter. Following this step, you will see the shafts, which control the positioning of the power seat. Slicing the spring mesh, however, must be done carefully. Very often, while working on the slicing, people end up slicing parts other than the spring mesh. This can prove to be very costly for you. It can wreak havoc on your car, and you will have to call a professional, spending a lot of money on repairs.

3. Moving the Shafts

After cutting the spring mesh in the way outlined in the step before, you can see the shafts. You will now have to work on them and position the chair, as per your requirement. To access the pole, you will have to make use of pliers. If you want to move the seat forward, turn the pole to the left. And if you want to move it backward, you should turn the pole to the right. This exercise requires a lot of patience, as it will require a lot of turns to get the seat in the requisite position. The tools need to be proper, so that they do not tire your hands while working for a while. Otherwise, you will have to open the shafts again to get your seat repositioned. This will cost you time and effort.

4. Testing

The final stage is testing. This will make you know whether you have worked right. Position yourself on the seat to get a feel of the new settings. Ensure that you can reach the pedals properly, and you can see through the windshield clearly. If you feel that there is a need for a change, you will have to make adjustments to the pole accordingly. In case your seat is still not comfortable, by now, you will know how many more turns will be required to fix your seat. Thus, you will save a lot of time and energy.

If you are comfortable with the positioning, go ahead and put the seat in the right place. This must be followed with the re-installation of the car batteries. Thus, you can look forward to many comfortable rides on your Ford car, devoid of headaches and back pains.

However, note that this is a temporary fix of the problem of a failed power seat. At some point, you will definitely have to consult the Ford service to get your power seat working again.
